Cost of an intern (Belgium, France)
What an intern costs a company: minimum gratification in France, study placement or professional immersion agreement in Belgium.
How it works
France: gratification is compulsory beyond 2 months of internship (more than 308 hours), at least 15% of the hourly social security ceiling, i.e. €4.50 per hour in 2026 (about €682.50 a month at 35 h). It is exempt from contributions up to that minimum; the part above is subject to contributions (estimated here at 40% for the employer). Belgium: most placements done during studies are unpaid (the school insures the student). Under a CIP the minimum monthly allowance depends on age (Wallonia and Brussels, July 2026: €915.80 at 18, €982.80 at 19, €1,049.80 at 20, €1,116.90 from 21; Flanders: €1,116.81) and the employer must insure the intern against workplace accidents.
