How it works

Under student status (650 hours per calendar year), only a solidarity contribution is due: 2.71% for the student and 5.42% for the employer. Hours beyond 650 are subject to normal contributions (13.07% for the worker, about 25% for the employer). For tax, within the 650 hours the employer normally withholds no tax, and student job income is exempt up to €7,010 for 2026 income (€6,840 for 2025). With the basic tax-free allowance, most students pay no tax at all. Above that, or with other income, part may be taxed and the student may no longer be a dependant of their parents. Also check your region's child benefit rules.
